Safer Internet Day: does EnfTech have a role in delivering fairness by design?

Prof. Christine Riefa delivered a keynote at the Safer Internet Day Conference organised by Bitkom, the German digital industry network and the German Federal Ministry for Consumer Affairs

At the event which took place in Berlin on 6th February 2024, Riefa discussed the concept of Fairness by Design in consumer law.

Essentially, fairness by design requires a transformation of the way in which consumer protection laws are deployed and enforced. Only systematic enforcement of wrongdoing in digital markets can transform them so that consumers rights are continuously and actively protected.

EnfTech can be part of this – using technology to reduce the time and effort required to flag and curb wrongdoing in digital markets will free up more resources for enforcement activity and help embed fairness.
